Springfield Area Mobile Intensive Care (SAMIC) at St. John's Hospital began in 1976 under the watchful eye of 2004 Copley Springfield First Citizen Award winner Dr. John M. Holland. The first paramedics starting providing emergency care in Springfield in April 1977.

    Today, the SAMIC EMS System has 78 EMS agencies in 14 counties in Central Illinois, including five associate and participating hospitals. These agencies represent more than 1,400 EMS personnel. Our EMT's are paid, volunteer, full-time, part-time, private, municipal and fire protection district-based providers. All are dedicated professionals in their communities.
